MONSIEUR MAGNETIK "DARK GLOVES"
I almost ended up in jail making this film! At the time, the location we needed wasn't available anymore, and securing it required some... extra efforts. In the process, I overstayed my visa without realizing, but after paying a lengthy fine, I was back on track.

This was one of my first creative projects in China, and I had a blast doing it. The film is an homage to Shanghai’s 1930s French Concession, the local mob, and the vibrant cabaret culture that thrived at the time. It also reflects my personal experience in the city during the early 2000s.

Things have changed a lot since then. The abandoned location we shot in has become the famous cabaret "The Pearl," and Shanghai continues to evolve.
